Nine-time Grammy-nominated sitarist, producer and film composer Anoushka Shankar will receive an honorary degree from Oxford University and describes it as a "pinch moment" in her career.


The prestigious recognition is given "in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the music industry" and underscores her profound impact on the global music landscape and her unwavering commitment to bridging cultural divides through her art.


Anoushka said, "This is truly a pinnacle moment in my career; I never dreamed that I would receive such an honour, let alone from one of the most prestigious universities in the world. I am very grateful to Oxford University for awarding me an honorary degree.


“I am reflective and grateful to all my past teachers who got me to this point. I was fortunate to receive the most valuable education in music under the guidance of my father and incredible coaching and support from my mother from the age of thirteen throughout my career. All this is thanks to them," she said.
